Thinking about a sex change or gender reassignment? Doctor Ramirez or Doctor Sony as he is sometimes known, is the worst.
I arrived at the Sony clinic on the 15/ 08/ 04 to undergone gender reassignment surgery. My initial feelings were that the procedure would be successful. Unfortunately I soon began to see things that made me feel uncomfortable. One of the clinic nurses placed myself and a friend in a room with only one bed. The clinic had promised to accommodate my friend during my stay there, to help overcome any language problems. We were provided with a single bed and a very uncomfortable leather sofa.
Dr Sony came and introduced himself. I showed to Dr Sony the pictures of the things that I wanted to achieve from the surgery, like reducing the size of my vagina lips, which had stopped me from being sexually involved with anyone!
The picture that I showed him was from a porn magazine so he had a visual likeness of what I wanted to achieve. I did also mention my breast that needed to be fixed. They were very far apart, due to a previous surgical procedure. I did specifically request that the size of them should not have be increased..

Dr Sony hardly spoke any English. We communicated with my friend translating, as he is fluent in Spanish and English. Dr Soy reassured me that he would be able to achieve exactly what I was hoping for.
On the morning on the 16/08/04 after a dreadful night on that leather sofa, I was preparing myself for surgery. A nurse came into the room with a quote for the surgery which I was prepared for. I paid with travel cheques I was then ready for several hours of surgery reconstruction! Surprisingly, I taken in a wheel-chair to the surgery theater, but what happened next is a big blur of drug confusion!
Being in a lot of pain after surgery and not able to sleep due to the fact that my electric bed was broken and could not be replaced. I was distressed, and felt that my requests were being ignored by the Spanish speaking nursing staff.
Soon after the surgery, one night I woke up to go to the bathroom as I sat on the toilet seat, I blacked out, falling on my nose. Minutes later I woke up finding myself lieing in a pool of my own blood. I dragged myself to my bed to ring for help, ten minutes later a nurse came arrived. When I tried to explain what had happened, she showed no compassion, she could have been dealing with a corpse.
She then left the room and later returned with some kind of injection all I remember after that was waking up with a headache, breathing difficulty and some kind of plaster across my nose!
On the morning of the 19/08/04 Dr Sony made another brief visit. He informed me that I had fallen badly on my nose, but luckily for me he had repaired my nose. He also said that he needed my room and that he wanted me to leave the clinic that same day.
While still weak and under the influence of drugs and not having washed for 4 days I was forced to leave. Walking was nearly impossible due to my overly swollen vagina lips, massive scars around my nipples and a nose surgery that I did know about. Also he gave me no information about what had occurred during the nose surgery or aftercare advice.
Unlike the day of the surgery where I was wheeled to the surgery theater, I had to walk to the awaiting taxi. I was disorientated, embarrassed and ashamed. I had no analgesics as I left The Sony Clinic. That day was the last time I ever saw Dr Sony.
For 12 days I had to take care of myself and to buy my own medicine. I now have a nose with one nostril smaller than the other. I suffer with breathing problems. My vagina lips are still oversized and have developed infections on several occasions.
My breast are badly scared and still to far apart.
Thanks to the evil Dr Sony I will never enjoy sexual intimacy with a man and will never have surgery again.

Before you proceed towards undergoing sex change surgery, research very thoroughly the credentials and references of any prospective surgeons. They should be able to provide you with both qualifications and references which should be verified before agreeing to any surgery. Surgery as practiced by Dr Ramirez/Sony can ruin your life.

I am posting my story to this site to urge you to re-consider using Dr
Ramirez for gender re-assignment surgery. I unfortunately chose him as my
surgeon two years ago, and I can truly say that this has been the greatest
error of my life.
That is not to say that my sense of need for gender re-assignment surgery
has changed, on the contrary I recognize my own need much more clearly now,
that to have genitals that correspond with my sense of gender identity is a
driving goal in my life. The damaging work that this man has done to me
has distorted and delayed my journey to feel at home in myself, to believe
that my body and psyche are at one with each other.
My quest to feel at home in my body began in my earliest years. I moved to Los Angeles in
1994. Where I began to dress as a woman and shortly came to realize that
previous depression was closely related to a sense of gender
dysphoria. With the support of sympathetic friends and a counselor I
began to look at options for gender re-assignment. Financially my options
were not vast. I was on a relatively low salary with no access to state
funded surgery. I began to save money in the late nineties realizing that
my best option would be to try to access surgery outside the USA, where the
cost is prohibitive unless you are prepared to run the risk of using
de-regulated and 'underground' surgical practitioners. I was told
about a surgeon working in Mexico named Dr Ramirez. His fees would be
affordable and I was assured by the contact that he was competent and
experienced in performing male to female genital re-assignment. I
traveled to Mexico City and undertook a consultation with Dr
Ramirez. He showed me photographs of previous clients and I felt
re-assured that he was qualified to undertake this surgery.
I underwent surgery with him in 2003. He arranged convalescence for
me in Mexico City and promised a total after surgery care package. This
however was not a true representation of the service he was qualified or
indeed able to offer. I have since had to access further corrective
surgery in Los Angeles, London and France. Furthermore I have been
crippled by the 'butchering' that I underwent on the operating table.
The Sony Clinic provided a totally unprofessional service and all staff worked in a manner that is un-ethical. The way they treated me did not encourage my recovery. The clinic has offered no follow up or aftercare to me despite my complaints to The Sony Clinic. Please do not use this clinic, it may be fatal to you.
